HERE’S WHY YOU DON’T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT RAIN FOR YOUR SENIOR PICTURE SESSION

I totally understand why so many people worry about rain when they schedule their senior picture session! As a parent, you’ve done a ton of planning. Maybe you’ve bought new outfits – you’ve hired hair and makeup – and you’ve obviously invested in the portrait session itself. Putting all the monetary investments aside, you’ve watched your child grow into a young adult that you’re so incredibly proud of. You still remember holding them and rocking them to sleep like it was yesterday. You remember the first steps, the first words, the first goal, the first concert, the first award. They are still your little baby.

But soon they’ll be leaving & heading off to college and you want to give them the world. You want to make sure that their senior year is one to remember. You should read our post on when to schedule your senior portrait session to help ease some of your worries too!

They are still your little baby.

As a senior, you’ve looked forward to this moment for so long! You’re starting this exciting new chapter in your life. You’re excited to head off to college, decorate a dorm room, meet new friends, and experience new things. You’ve been looking forward to your senior pictures for a while now, planned locations, and scrolled for the perfect outfit inspo. You get to have a day all about YOU (finally!). Everything about this moment in your life should be filled with joy and excitement and laughter and confetti.

So here’s my advice when it comes to weather and rain during your senior picture session: stop stressing about it.

Yes, I know that sounds crazy after I literally just told you that I understand why you’re so worried about it but let me tell you why I say that. Let’s be honest, weather can be kinda unpredictable sometimes. As much as I’d like to control the weather, I just haven’t figured it out yet! We’ve had scorching hot days in September and October and we’ve had snow in April and May. My point here is that you really just never know, so be ready for it all! Rescheduling can be really challenging especially during spring and summer which are super busy senior session months! But more than any of those reasons…

RAIN CAN MAKE GORGEOUS PHOTOS!

A good rain the night before or morning of, paired with a warm summer day can make for a beautiful foggy glow in your senior portraits! Plus I’ll let you in on a little secret, photographing in super bright direct sunlight doesn’t actually make the best photos. It can create harsh shadows, super bright washed out facial features, and not to mention the all too familiar *the suns in my eyes* squint. An overcast day will actually be your best friend for your senior portrait session so embrace the chance of rain and roll with mother nature – you’ll actually end up with photos that you’re amazed by!

However, I will end by saying that if rainy/foggy pictures really aren’t your thing then make sure you’re planning in advance and scheduling your portrait session for at least 3 months ahead of your deadlines just in case mother nature forces you to reschedule. This way you’ll have time to reschedule your portrait session and get gorgeous photos without having to scramble and rush right before yearbook and graduation deadlines.
